It's also where your life's journey begins; the 1st house is the entry point of the chart.
The 1st house governs how you appear in the world: your face, your body type, your style, the energy you bring into a room. It's your "look and feel" — what people sense before they know anything about you. The sign on your 1st house cusp (your Rising sign or Ascendant) is the major indicator of this; planets in the 1st house add their own flavour.
A planet in the 1st house is highly visible — it shows. Sun in the 1st makes for a strong, present, sometimes dramatic personality. Moon in the 1st makes you visibly emotional and changeable. Mercury in the 1st makes you visibly verbal and quick. Venus in the 1st gives natural charm and beauty. Mars in the 1st makes you visibly assertive and energetic.
