Why the moon sign is the one people recognise
Ask someone their sign and they'll give you their sun. Describe their moon sign back to them and they'll go quiet. The Moon governs the reflexes — what you reach for when you're tired, how you comfort yourself, what makes you feel held or exposed. It's the part of the chart that shows up in relationships first, because it's the part that shows up at 11pm.
The Moon moves fast: about 13 degrees a day, a full sign every two to three days. That's why two people with the same sun sign, born a week apart, can feel like different species. It's also why the moon sign is the first thing worth checking in compatibility — two moons that understand each other forgive a lot of sun-sign friction.

Common questions
What is a moon sign?
Your moon sign is the zodiac sign the Moon occupied at the moment you were born. Where the sun sign describes how you present and pursue, the moon sign describes what you need to feel safe, how you process emotion, and what you fall back on when nobody is watching. Many people recognise themselves more in their moon than their sun.
Do I need my birth time to find my moon sign?
Usually not. The Moon spends about two and a half days in each sign, so on most birthdays the sign is the same all day. It only matters on the roughly one day in three when the Moon changes sign — the calculator flags those borderline cases so you know whether a birth time would settle it.
How is the moon sign calculated?
We convert your local birth time and place to Universal Time, compute the Moon’s ecliptic longitude with an astronomical ephemeris, and map that 0–360° position onto the twelve 30° signs of the tropical zodiac — the same system used by Western astrologers. The result includes the exact degree.
Is a moon sign more important than a sun sign?
Neither outranks the other; they answer different questions. Sun is identity and direction, Moon is instinct and comfort. The interesting reading is the relationship between them — a fiery Aries sun with a cautious Capricorn moon behaves very differently from an Aries sun with an Aries moon. Your full birth chart shows both together, with the rising sign as the third piece.
