Why the Venus sign is the one couples feel
Two people with clashing Sun signs and matching Venus signs get on better than the horoscope column predicts, because Venus is the placement that actually shows up in a relationship: the way affection is given and received, the things that feel romantic and the things that feel like neglect. When partners keep missing each other while both trying hard, it is usually two Venus signs speaking different languages.
Venus is never more than about 48 degrees from the Sun, so your Venus sign is your Sun sign or one of its two neighbours. That is why a Leo can love like a Cancer or a Virgo, and why the Sun-sign description of your love life often feels slightly off.

Common questions
What is a Venus sign?
The zodiac sign Venus occupied when you were born. Where the Sun sign describes identity, the Venus sign describes how you love: what you find attractive, how you show affection, what you need from a partner and where your relationships tend to go wrong.
Do I need my birth time?
Almost never. Venus moves about a degree a day and spends roughly a month in each sign, so the date fixes it except on the one or two days a month when Venus changes sign. The result tells you if your birthday is one of those.
Can my Venus sign differ from my Sun sign?
Yes, and it usually does for about two thirds of people. Venus is never more than about 48 degrees from the Sun, so your Venus sign is either your Sun sign or one of the two signs on either side of it.
How is it calculated?
We convert your local birth time and place to Universal Time, compute Venus’s geocentric ecliptic longitude with an astronomical ephemeris, and map it onto the tropical zodiac. It is the same engine that computes full birth charts on this site.
