What a natal chart actually is
Forget the newspaper horoscope for a moment — that only uses your sun sign, one data point out of dozens. A natal chart is the full picture: the Sun, the Moon, and eight planets, each placed in one of twelve signs and one of twelve houses, all woven together by aspects. Two people born the same week share a sun sign; almost nobody shares a chart. The time and place of birth shift the rising sign every two hours and rearrange the houses entirely, which is why astrologers always ask for them.
Reading a chart is less like looking up a fortune and more like reading a character sheet. It won't tell you what happens next Tuesday. It describes tendencies — how you assert yourself, what makes you feel safe, where you naturally over- or under-invest — and gives you vocabulary for patterns you already half-recognize in yourself.

What is a birth chart?
A birth chart (also called a natal chart) is a map of where the Sun, Moon, and planets were at the exact moment and place you were born. Astrology reads that map as a portrait of your temperament: each planet describes a drive, the sign it sits in describes its style, and the house it falls in describes the life area where it plays out.
Is the birth chart really free?

What if I don’t know my birth time?
You can still get most of your chart. Without a time we compute your sun, moon, and planet signs, which carry the bulk of the meaning. The rising sign and house placements need an exact time, so those are omitted — and the reading tells you clearly which parts depend on it.
How is the chart calculated?
Positions come from a professional-grade astronomy library computing real planetary coordinates for your birth moment, using the Western tropical zodiac and Whole Sign houses. Your birthplace is resolved to coordinates and a timezone via OpenStreetMap, so historical time zones are handled correctly.
What are the sun, moon, and rising signs?
The "big three." Your sun sign is your core identity — the sign most people already know. Your moon sign is your emotional inner life. Your rising sign (ascendant) is the sign that was on the eastern horizon when you were born: the first impression you make and the lens the rest of the chart is read through.
