The Seventh House

The 7th house is the house of partnership. It begins at the Descendant (the western horizon) — exactly opposite the Ascendant. Where the 1st is "self," the 7th is "other." It governs marriage, committed romantic partnership, business partnership, and (interestingly) open enemies — anyone you've chosen to be in formal relationship with, for better or worse.

The 7th house describes your committed partnerships — the kind of partner you're drawn to, the dynamics of your relationships, and what you project onto "the other." The sign on your 7th house cusp (your Descendant) is a major indicator: it's often the qualities you find most attractive in others because they're the ones you haven't fully owned in yourself.

Planets in the 7th shape your partnership life. Sun in the 7th makes partnership central to identity — you define yourself partly through who you're with. Moon in the 7th makes you emotionally dependent on partnership. Venus in the 7th (its natural house) is the classic "lucky in love" placement. Mars in the 7th can mean combative or passionate partnerships, sometimes both. Saturn in the 7th delays partnership but produces durable ones. Pluto in the 7th brings transformative, intense, sometimes destructive-then-rebuilding relationships.

The 7th house also governs business partnerships and formal contracts — anyone you've made a deal with. And it covers "open enemies" — the people you publicly oppose. Astrologers note that lovers and enemies share a house because both involve intense projection of inner contents onto another person.
