Pisces–Aries cusp: which are you?
Astrology writers call it the Cusp of Rebirth. In the sky there is no overlap: the Sun leaves Pisces and enters Aries at one precise minute, and that minute moves by up to a day depending on the year. Find your birth year below, convert your birth time to UTC, and you're one sign or the other. In 2026 the crossing is on March 20 at 14:45 UTC.

The Cusp of Rebirth: Pisces–Aries traits
What cusp lore describes for people born in the days around the crossing. Your Sun is still in one sign; the blend usually comes from Mercury, Venus, the Moon or the rising sign sitting in the other one, which your chart can confirm.
Personality
Pisces is the last sign and Aries the first, so the tradition calls this crossing the Cusp of Rebirth: the end of the zodiac meeting its beginning. Around the March equinox, Piscean imagination and empathy tend to arrive with Aries courage and impatience in the same person. They dream big and act fast, sometimes both in the same hour. They're intuitive, spontaneous and often drawn to new starts, whether moving city, changing career or reinventing themselves.
In love
Relationships bring out their romantic, passionate and idealistic streak. Pisces gives them the longing for a soul connection and deep compassion; Aries gives them the appetite for excitement and for taking the lead. They fall quickly and can give a great deal, but they may also want a relationship to feel like a new beginning over and over. Partners who can offer both tenderness and a bit of adventure keep them engaged.
At work
They do well in work that lets them start things and follow inspiration: entrepreneurship, the arts, performing, healthcare with a pioneering edge, activism, coaching, sports, creative direction. They're good at seeing possibilities and rallying others to them. Routine and bureaucracy tire them quickly. They benefit from a partner or team who can handle the details and follow-through while they drive the vision.
The challenge
The risk is starting over too often: dropping projects or relationships at the first sign of dullness, or acting on impulse before thinking it through. They can swing between self-sacrifice and self-assertion. They mature by finishing what matters, pausing between feeling and acting, and learning that stability can be a foundation for reinvention rather than its enemy.
Why the date moves
The Sun takes 365 days, 6 hours and about 9 minutes to return to the same ecliptic degree, so each crossing lands roughly 5 hours 49 minutes later than the year before — until a leap day pulls it back a full day. Over a four-year cycle the crossing drifts about 45 minutes earlier, which is why the Pisces–Aries boundary sits on March 20 or 21 depending on the year rather than on one fixed date. Horoscope columns print a fixed date; the sky doesn't keep one.

What are the Pisces–Aries cusp dates?
Across 1980–2030 the Sun left Pisces and entered Aries on March 20 (44 of 51 years), March 21 (7 of 51 years). The exact instant is listed for every year in the table above.
Am I Pisces or Aries if I was born on the cusp?
One or the other, never both. Find your birth year in the table, convert your birth time to UTC, and compare: before the crossing you are Pisces, after it Aries. If you don't know your birth time, the free chart calculator computes it from date, time and place and settles it in a minute.
Why is the Pisces–Aries cusp called the Cusp of Rebirth?
The twelve cusp names come from Gary Goldschneider and Joost Elffers' The Secret Language of Birthdays (1994), which treats the week around each crossing as its own period with its own character. The Cusp of Rebirth is the name that book gave to the days where Pisces turns into Aries, and astrology writers have used it ever since.
Is being born on a cusp special?
In the chart your Sun sits at one degree of exactly one sign, so you are never "both". What cusp lore describes is still worth reading: someone born within a few days of the crossing often has Mercury or Venus (which stay close to the Sun) in the neighbouring sign, or the Moon or rising there, and those placements do much of the blending people attribute to the cusp. Your full chart shows which ones you have.
